Colorado County Fair

Posted in Photo Outings on September 21, 2008 by John Peralta

Traveled to Columbus, Texas, to visit friends and family. While there we went to the Colorado County Fair and good times were had by all – especially the kids. Some good photo ops as well – the highlight was standing in the rodeo arena alongside a photographer from Texas Highways. Did some experimenting with longer shutter speeds to convey the sense of speed and power. Here are some of my shots. Enjoy.

OK – I am officially deviant now. I finally succumbed to my daughter and signed up at DeviantArt. I’m really enjoying it – I am always stunned (and a little humbled) at how many truly gifted photographers there are in this world. My deviant user name is LightWhisperer (cute, no?).

Georgetown Art Hop

Posted in Competitions on September 1, 2008 by John Peralta

One of the images from my Texas Vistas series has been chosen for exhibit at the annual Fall Art Hop in Georgetown, Texas – just north of Austin. “Two Horses” was taken on the return leg of a camping trip I took several months ago. My truck came to a screeching halt when I noticed these to horses perfectly situated. This image, along with about 100 other works of art (all genres) will be on exhibit in various Georgetown locations during the month of October.

Had a great weekend. My daughter and I traveled to Dallas for the 2008 AnimeFest. Anime refers to the genre of Japanese animated cartoon shows that are so popular these days. The kids were great and the costumes (fully 75% of the kids were dressed as their favorite Anime character) were AWESOME. Saturday evening they held a concert by the classical music duo Ramen & RIce (on violin and cello) – who played themes from several shows to the roar of the crowd. This was followed by the long-awaited CosPlay – or costume contest – that was the highlight of the convention. My shots of some of the best costumes are below. Enjoy.
